Responding to Elder Abuse through the Orange Door Support Service
The Orange Door network is an accessible, safe and welcoming service. It provides access to support for adults, children and young people who are experiencing family violence, families who need support with the care and wellbeing of children and young people, and perpetrators of family violence.
The Orange Door Elder Abuse Prevention service is a part of the network. It is an older person-centred service that supports the older person in maintaining self-determination and the prevention of elder abuse.
Up until August 2023, Better Place Australia was funded to provide support to clients referred to us via the Orange Door Services at Inner Gippsland, Bayside Peninsula, Barwon, North East Melbourne, and via Women’s Health West and the Integrated Model of Care (IMOC) at Monash Health, Peninsula Health and Latrobe Community Health.
During 2023, an announcement was made by the Victorian Government that as of mid-August 2023 it will be defunding 70% of the elder abuse specialist positions in Victoria. For referrers and enquiries about the integrated model of care (IMOC) service ceasing mid-August 2023, Better Place Australia will be providing Elder Abuse Specialist Services through Orange Doors in the following local government areas (LGA).
